Anthropic Targets the Enterprise with Claude Duet

The new agent focuses on professional workflows and automated task management, distinguishing itself from consumer-focused rivals in the crowded AI market.

Anthropic is betting its next major growth phase on a specific niche within the exploding artificial intelligence market, aiming its new product, Claude Duet, directly at professionals and small businesses. The move comes as the sector shifts its focus from general-purpose chatbots to autonomous agents capable of executing complex workflows on behalf of users. By launching Duet, the company is entering a competitive field that includes Meta Muse, OpenAI Dots, Hark, Instinct, Grok Bot, and Fo, each vying for user attention with their own distinct approaches to automation.

The core value proposition of Duet is its specialized focus on business operations rather than personal errands. Anthropic explicitly distinguishes its product from consumer-oriented agents like Instinct, noting that Duet is not designed to book tickets or handle casual lifestyle tasks. Furthermore, the interface does not provide a live view of the agent’s browser activity. Instead, the system is engineered to construct daily briefings, generate custom dashboards, and propose strategic actions based on proprietary user data. This targeted approach allows the agent to run tasks in the background via a dedicated virtual machine, intervening only when user approval is required.

The timing of this launch coincides with a broader industry pivot toward business-centric applications. While competitors like Meta offer personal assistants alongside small-business versions, and OpenAI integrates its Dots with professional tools, Anthropic is doubling down on enterprise-grade capabilities. Duet is built on the Claude Opus 5.5 model and features a robust connectivity architecture, linking to more than 6,000 connectors and plug-ins available in the Claude Marketplace. This extensive integration allows the agent to interact with a wide array of third-party services, enhancing its utility for professional workflows.

A significant feature for commercial users is the ability to execute financial transactions. Duet can process online purchases through Stripe’s Link digital wallet or Shopify’s Shop Pay, effectively acting as a buying agent for its users. However, the company has established clear boundaries to manage risk. Sensitive financial steps, such as payments, mandate explicit user approval. The agent is explicitly restricted from trading securities or transferring funds between accounts, a limitation designed to instill confidence among business owners wary of full autonomous financial control.

Security remains a critical concern as agents gain access to more sensitive corporate data. To address this, Anthropic introduced a new classifier that scans every message to prevent the leakage of confidential information. By default, the system is programmed to reject requests for highly sensitive data points, including credit card numbers and government identification documents. This layered security approach aims to make the agent a safer partner for handling professional data compared to its consumer-focused counterparts.

Access to Claude Duet is currently limited, reflecting the software's status as a research preview. The application is available for iOS and Android devices, as well as through the web interface at Claude.ai, but exclusively for Pro and Max tier customers. To manage initial demand and gather user feedback, Anthropic requires interested parties to join a waitlist before gaining access to the platform.

As the market saturates with new AI tools, the differentiation between personal and professional agents is becoming a key competitive lever. Anthropic’s strategy suggests that the future of AI value lies not just in conversation, but in the seamless, secure execution of business tasks. Whether Duet can carve out a significant share of the market remains to be seen, but its focus on specific professional use cases marks a distinct departure from the generalist approach of many of its rivals.
